Ice Follies Update

February 11th, 2010

Today I will auger holes for the bamboo poles. I will also be subdividing the larger area into ten smaller areas to create a series of pods. I will try and post video of the actual ice augering. van-schie.

Ice Follies Update

February 10th, 2010

Tomorrow I start to auger ice holes for the project. All the solar lights are siliconed to the bamboo poles. All the day glo paint is applied to the bamboo poles. I received the flagging tape. It seems that the building of the installation is pretty well all that is left. Come down to the water front if you have a chance and see what is going on with the Ice Follies. van-schie.

All the solar lights are now here, also the blue blinking solar lights. I also bought vermillion paint to paint the bamboo poles. It is slowly coming together. van-schie.

Ice Follies Update

January 29th, 2010

Today the bamboo poles arrived and now I will start to paint them. They are being painted red. Also the flagging tape is in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. It will arrive in North Bay next week. Things are starting to come together. van-schie. Oh yah, if you know anyone with a power ice auger have them come down to my installation on February 13th, 2010 to drill some holes in the ice.

Ice Follies update

January 28th, 2010

As usual my ideas change and morph into other things. My auger project is changing slightly, but I believe for the better. I will now have more solar lights and the larger area will be divided into five creating smaller more manageable areas. Each smaller area will have 100 white solar lights, along with 300 auger holes, bamboo poles, flagging tape, and glow in the dark paint. It should be fairly interesting. That being said, the weather is presently all over the place, but it is making the prep work a bit unpredictable. Any way, enough said. If you want to participate in this project, feel free to come down on February 13 in the morning. Bring a drill and a 5/8 inch bit to put in bamboo sticks in the ice or a power ice auger to auger some of the 1500 holes. It should be a tour de force. See you soon. I’ll start posting images of solar lights and other things soon. van-schie.

Idea for WKP Kennedy's 2010 Ice Follies

I’m thinking of making a ice auger project. The idea is to drill 1500 ice fishing holes, put 1500 bamboo poles standing up beside the holes with glow in the dark paint, reflective flagging tape, and 100 flashing solar lights. It should be an interesting day making the installation. van-schie.
